Local ensemble performs at Carnegie Hall

| May 9, 2024 1:00 AM

Bonners Ferry's Boundless vocal ensemble performed to a standing ovation on April 22, at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. The 16  singers from the group were invited, along with other choirs from across the U.S., to present works by composer Ola Gjeilo. This was their second Carnegie Hall appearance.

Boundless is directed by Vicki Blake Thompson. The performance received wonderful reviews and a standing ovation. Each choir prepared the works before traveling to NYC and then joined voices in a 200 voice mass choir accompanied by orchestra and piano performance by the composer.

"This is a unique opportunity for us," Blake Thompson said. "The primary work we presented is not really accessible for local choirs alone. At times, we were singing in 12 parts with a soloist and orchestra. What a fantastic opportunity it was for our singers. Our conductor, Maestra Irene Messoloras from UC- Irvine, was an excellent teacher as well as conductor."

Three Bonners Ferry choirs, including Boundless, will be starting rehearsals in September for performances Oct. 18-20. Other choirs include a women's choir Spiritsong, and a men's ensemble.

Any interested singers should contact Vicki Blake Thompson at vickiblake1@mac.com. Scores and part specific recordings will be available in July.
