100 Years Ago

A large crowd of B.F. Lodge people attended the recent annual district meeting of the I.O.O.F. and the Rebekah Lodges in Sandpoint. Their offer to have the next annual meeting in B.F. was accepted.

Ed Bush and Ulysses Chisholm, both employees of the Parks Highway Garage narrowly escaped drowning when their boat capsized near Lenia. Chisholm was unable to swim, but Bush put cedar poles under his arms before being washed 2 miles downstream. Chisholm was carried farther down the river but was finally able to get out of the water by himself and walk back to Lenia.

Dr. Fry announced the following additions to the population of Boundary Co.: Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Fry, a son; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hamilton, a daughter; Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Thomas, a son; Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Finney of McArthur, a son; Mr. and Mrs. Axel J. Freid of Moravia, a daughter; and Mr. and Mrs. Van Branham, a son.

The Fourth of July plans include an afternoon performance of the famous Sanger’s European Circus along with many athletic games and concerts, which will be held on Main Street. The day will end with dances at the K.P. Hall and the I.O.O.F. Hall.

50 Years Ago

The corner stone for the new $875,000 B.F.H.S. will be laid this Saturday with a presentation by Mayor, Aug Baylon. The school is expected to be completed in less than a year.

Bob Spalding and his wife, Ione, have been elected to the highest V.F.W. district posts. Bob is now Commander of District 1, while Ione is District 1 Auxiliary President.

Ramona Plato, wife of Gale Plato, was presented with a beef roast of 6 pounds 3˝ ounces (the same weight as her baby, James Jared); as he was the baby born closest to Father’s Day.

15 Years Ago

On the back of Wayne Nishek’s carriage was a sign that stated the following: “This vehicle powered by oats and grass – Caution - Do not step in exhaust.”

Boundary County Habitat for Humanity President Don Vickaryous presented Rocky Burkholder with a special plaque recognizing him as the 2004 Habitat for Humanity Bowl-a-thon Champion fundraiser.

The youth soccer team captured a bronze at a competition in Cranbrook.
