100 Years Ago

William Eaton, “The Father of Bonners Ferry,“ died Friday at his home. The deceased was 90 years old. He came to this district 32 years ago and was one of the first white men to settle here.

Three horses, belonging to C.B. VanAlstine, fell into the Kootenai River through the ice last Sunday. With assistance of the neighbors, the horses were recovered.

J.W. Cavitt was injured yesterday at the mill of the Bonners Ferry Lumber Company when he fell from a load of lumber and hurt his right arm.

A hearing has been scheduled to discuss the bypass project.

Linda Davidson, Bonners Ferry’s Junior Miss, has returned from participating in the state pageant.

15 Years Ago

In an effort to invite business growth, community leaders are asking Verizon and the owner of a local computer business to improve their high-speed and wireless internet service to this area.

Warm and dry weather this winter may lead to ultra-dry conditions next summer and as much as a 50 percent reduction in the whitewater kayaking and rafting season in Boundary County.

Preliminary suggestions for the new Bonners Ferry Visitors Center are underway.
