Thirty years ago you could drive into the parking lot at the Bonners Ferry High School and find several pick-up trucks with deer rifles hanging in racks in the back windows. Not many people gave it a second thought.

Gene W. Allen, 78, passed away April 8, 2007 in Spokane, Wash. Gene was born in Oregon City, Ore. on May 15, 1928.

Badgers finish fourth at Sandpoint
BLANCHARD — Trevor Koberstein shot a 76 to lead the Bonners Ferry boys golf team at the Sandpoint Invitational Monday afternoon at Stoneridge Golf Course. Koberstein said consistency was the key, especially in his drives, where he was averaging around 270 yards per pop.

Grubham's hit lifts St. Maries past Bonners
On April 16 at St. Maries, A.J. Bennett from Bonners Ferry hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, but Marc Grubham stroked a two-run, game-winning single in the seventh to lead St. Maries past the Intermountain League-leading Badgers 6-5 on Tuesday.
Teddie M. (Banka) Huggins, 53
Teddie M. (Banka) Huggins, 53 went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2007 at Deaconess Medical Center after a long extensive battle with Cancer. She was born in Sandpoint, Idaho on June 10, 1953 to Robert and Odessa Banka. She lived in Sandpoint most of her childhood. That is where she met her soul mate Wally Huggins. They had moved to Whitefish, Mont., with their daughter, Randi where they lived for a few years and had a son, Shane in 1970.

Harold A. John, 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in Spokane, Wash. The Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Carlos Perez officiated. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Bonners boys edge Kellogg in IML tourney
ST. MARIES — Kellogg's Sam Redman and Kyle Finley tied for boys medalist with 79s, but the Bonners Ferry boys edge the Wildcats in an Intermountain League match. Girls medalist Taryn Cochrane (98) led Kellogg to the girls team title, beating second-place St. Maries by a combined 56 shots.
Dr. Strand Huge Coup for Bonners
When I opened the paper on Thursday April 12, I was shocked to see a picture of my very own Dr. Marilyn Strand announcing that she would be relocating to Bonners Ferry. What a HUGE coup for this community. I love Dr. Strand and probably more important to the community, is the fact that she literally saved my life!

Ora Frances (Franny) Davidson, 91, passed away on March 31, 2007 at the Community Hospital E.R. in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho with private interment following. A luncheon provided by the ladies of the church will follow the service.
Badgers score big to win tournament at home
The Bonners Ferry Badger Baseball team took to the field this weekend priming themselves for their upcoming league games. They did just that winning the second annual Badger invitational tournament and improving their record to 7-3.

I would like to comment on my experience and findings through attending the County Comp Plan Workshops. I have found that the county commissioners and Mike Weland have taken extra care to produce a Comp Plan document for the public meeting that is clear and positive.

Howard L. Leighty, 59
Howard L. Leighty, 59, a long time Troy area logger, died Monday, March 26 at the Libby Care Center. He was born to Bruce and Ilah (Smith) Leighty on January 18, 1948 at Spokane. Howard was raised and educated in Troy, graduating from Troy High School in 1966. A Viet Nam veteran, Howard entered the United States Navy in 1967 and served honorably until being discharged and returning to Troy.
