Wayne R. Johnson, 71, of Bonners Ferry Idaho passed away November 21, 2015 in Post Falls, ID, after a courageous struggle against Hamman-Rich Syndrome.  Wayne was born June 27, 1944 in Whittier, Ca to Gunner & Caroline (Hollerbach) Johnson.  He attended Northrop Technical Institute, and served in the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam War.  After his military service, as a civilian employee of the federal government, he contributed to the security of our nation during the cold war.

2nd Annual Hometown Holiday event set for Nov. 27-28

Local businesses, with support from the Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce, are joining together to offer folks a chance to stay home during the biggest shopping weekend of the year with abundant local sales and specials for the second Annual Hometown Holiday Event on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. From storewide sales to fresh-baked cookies, this weekend promises to give everyone a shopping experience that will be both pleasurable and easy on the wallet. Best of all, every dollar spent at home is one more dollar that stays local, helping boost our local economy. On Friday, November 27 from 4 to 5:30 p.m., everyone is welcome to the Annual Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree at the Georgia Mae Plaza, along with the arrival of Santa Claus to greet all the Boundary County children and their families. Bonners Ferry woman pleads guilty to stolen mail

COEUR D’ALENE - Nicole Lynn Abraham, 30, of Bonners Ferry pleaded guilty to possession of stolen mail, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.  Abraham was indicted by a federal grand jury in Coeur d’Alene on March 17, 2015.

Owl pellets provide clues to owl's diet

Even though most owls are nocturnal hunters and we can’t see what they hunt, we know a surprising amount of information about their diet. An owl’s feces look like any other bird dropping, so we can’t tell what they eat. The clues to an owl’s diet lay in owl pellets--regurgitated pellets of indigestible material such as bones, fur, fish scales and teeth--because owls swallow their prey whole.

Voter turnout in local election up slightly from 2011 in Bonners

In what seems to be a national trend, voter turnout for last week’s local elections skewed low, with 32 percent of registered voters in Bonners Ferry showing up at the polls to vote for the offices of mayor and city council. Moyie Springs was even lower, with a 22 percent showing.

Evelyn Lorriene Eby 86, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 5th 2015. She passed away peacefully in the Boundary Community Hospital surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 7th at the Bonners Ferry Trinity Lutheran Church, with interment in Grandview Cemetery.

Thomas Wehner of Bonners Ferry is back in Cascade County as of Oct. 28 after fleeing to Idaho and violating the terms of his original $100,000 bond. Wehner is connected to a suspicious death investigation and facing criminal drug distribution and possession charges.
