Vandalisms hit local churches, law enforcement asking for help
Tuesday, February 23, local churches opened their doors for worship only to discover they had a crime scene. Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Ann’s Catholic Church were two that were vandalized. The person of interest walked into the Baptist Church but was not able to vandalize it because church members were already present.

David L. McAninch (61) of Bonners Ferry, Idaho passed away February 18, 2016 at the Kootenai Hospital in Coeur D’Alene after an extended battle with cancer.

David Michael Oehler, a writer, back-to-the-land hippy, and a pioneer of underground housing and earth-sheltered greenhouses died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at age 78, of natural causes at his home near Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Lady Badgers end season with losses to Timberlake, Priest River
The Lady Badgers basketball season came to an end last week with back-to-back losses to league rivals Timberlake and Priest River.

Audrey Lee Bennett Tusing, age 68, passed away at her home in Moyie Springs, Idaho on February 7th, 2016. A celebration of life will be held at a later date by the family.
Two arrested after vehicle pursuit in Bonners Ferry
On February 16, 25 year old William Woods, semi-transient and living around Boundary County, was arrested on Brown Creek Road by the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office following an approximate 2 ½ mile vehicle pursuit where Woods was the passenger.
Raymond J. Stump Brown
Ray Brown, salty-tongued master mechanic, late of Kingsgate was born August 16, 1933 and died February 2, 2016. Despite experiencing the school of hard knocks in late-depression Halifax and being obliged to go out on his own at age twelve, Ray with willpower to over came much in an extended life he relished to the end, facing his fate with buoyancy and grit. Badgers fall to Priest River on Senior Night, 58-51
The Badgers basketball team was unable to overcome a 19-7 third-quarter run By Priest River, losing to the Spartans 58-51 on a night where the team honored its seniors on the basketball team, the dance team and the band.

Man sues church over alleged abuse
Former Bonners Ferry resident Clayton Peaster, along with his attorneys, held a press conference to discuss a civil sexual abuse lawsuit that was filed with Kootenai County District Court on Thursday Feb. 11. The lawsuit was filed against Mt. View Mennonite Church, Inc and its parent organization, Kansas-based Church of God in Christ (Mennonite) also known as the Holdeman Mennonites. Additionally named in the complaint are David and Cynthia Peaster, the adoptive parents.

Bonners Ferry 46, Priest River 33: The Badgers took the fight to the Spartans from the start, but nearly paid for it with foul trouble and 16 turnovers in the first half.
Sheriff's candidates square off in public forum
Tuesday, Feb. 9 began the debate for the 2016 sheriff election for Boundary County. Candidates Dave Kramer, Dave Schuman and Sheriff Greg Sprungl were invited to be participants in the event which were open to the public and moderated by Steve Fioravanti. Sheriff Greg Sprungl who is running for re-election was invited multiple times but absent without response from his office.
Badgers sweep season series against Timberlake, fall to Kellogg
The BFHS Badgers basketball team completed a regular season sweep of league rival Timberlake Friday night defeating the Tigers 56-49.

Rocha disappearance investigated as homicide
Since the disappearance of Michael Rocha in November, the Boundary County Sheriff's Office, Bonners Ferry Police Department and the Idaho State Police have been actively investigating the case. During the course of the investigation, it has been determined that Rocha is deceased. Chief Deputy Rich Stephens confirmed that Rocha's death is now being investigated as a homicide. No charges have been filed in connection with Rocha's death at this time. Rocha, 58, went missing on Nov. 8. He was not a permanent resident of Boundary County, but was staying with different friends in the area. The last contact the BCSO had with Rocha was when deputies responded to a call for assistance for Rocha by a relative of his.
Badgers mount comeback against Priest River, fall to Stillwater Christian
The Badgers basketball team (4-7, 2-2) was able to mount a 4th quarter comeback to take a league game Friday at Priest River 50-47, but were unable to sustain that momentum into Saturday, losing to Stillwater Christian 60-50.
Dixon meets with Boundary County constituents at town hall meeting
The Bonner County Republican Women Inc. and the Bonner County Farm Bureau hosted a town hall meeting Saturday with Rep. Sage Dixon at the Providence Bible Presbyterian Church, who presented an update on the first three weeks of the 2016 legislative session in Boise.

Lauri Vogel Kittredge
Lauri Vogel Kittredge passed away on December 21, 2015. Lauri was born February 5, 1956 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho to Ellis and Sue Vogel. She attended school in Bonners Ferry before moving with her family to Coeur d’Alene in 1972 where she finished high school. Lauri received a degree in accounting from the College of Idaho in 1978 and was a practicing CPA until a few months before her death. It was a career she loved and excelled at.
