Great songs, cool arrangements featured in 'Hearts Open Wide'

| August 23, 2018 1:00 AM

The Pearl Theater presents Hearts Open Wide, an original musical production conceived by Paul Rawlings, created and directed in collaboration with Jesse Tobin. The show opens on Aug. 31, at 7:30 p.m. It continues on Sept. 1, 7 and 8. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Twenty-six songs!!! Knock-out arrangements. You’ll wonder, “Why aren’t these members of our very own community already famous?”

Come for the fun. Leave revitalized.

Fantastic music, decidedly quirky. Toe tap inducing, tear evoking, hand-clap mandating ...

Paul Rawlings reflected on his inspiration for the project, “Music’s played an important part in each of my recent stage productions at The Pearl. So last winter, I’m brainstorming about some NEW show I might do, and thinking, ‘What next?’ I get this idea: how about ALL SONGS? How ’bout if I put together a list of songs (songs that have some real meat on their bones), order them in such a way that they build nicely on each other (kind of the way the acts in a good play do), use this ‘bait’ to induce a small group of HUGELY TALENTED MUSICIANS to spend six weeks rehearsing, and then put the result ON STAGE? How would that be?

“It seemed clear to me that IF my fantasy band played this set of songs really well (like I was fantasizing), this one right after that one, something VERY COOL would happen during performance. And I was right. You oughta see it.”

With a tremendously talented cast, Rawlings is sure to make history. His musicians include Skye Campbell (vocalist, keyboards), India Rain (vocalist), Jesse Tobin (vocalist), Jeremiah Campbell (vocalist), keyboards), Craig Binnall (percussion), Jerry Causi (bass), John Marquette (guitar). Diana Tombleson is the stage manager, with Lynn Haworth on lights and sound.

Hearts Open Wide is a show you shouldn’t miss.
