BONNERS FERRY — A fatal accident occurred on U.S. 95, milepost 529, approximately nine miles south of Eastport, on Dec. 31 at 4:26 p.m., blocking the highway for about five hours.

Trinity Lutheran Church Christmas Schedule
The Fourth Advent Sunday Service will be held at 10 a.m. On Dec. 22, the fourth Sunday, is “Love”, our children and youth service. Christmas eve services with communion will be held on Dec. 24, and at 5 p.m. will be Christmas Eve Family Service and choir, followed by a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service with special music at 10 p.m. On Christmas Day, Dec. 25, there will be a Christmas Day service of carols and communion at 10 a.m.

Tom Chaney from the Active Heroes organization presented the Disabled American Veterans Chapter Commander Gordon Durham, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Commander Ben Apo and VFW member Mike Spurgeon, and Boundary County Veterans Service Officer Ron Self with a donation to cover the cost of the replacement of the furnace in the VFW hall here in Bonners Ferry.
Elks Hoop Shoot winners advance to Sandpoint event
On Friday, Dec. 13, 20 Valley View class finalists for the Elks Hoop Shoot gathered to participate in the school competition. The shooters ranged from third grade to fifth grade, both boys and girls. They were full of anticipation and nerves, but everyone performed the best they could in front of parents and peers.

UPDATE: Paisley Choate Fundraiser Auction
At the conclusion of the Paisley Choate Fundraiser Auction there will be a get together at Mountain West Bank. This will take place on Dec. 20, at 11 a.m., it will run until the food is gone or until around 2 p.m. This event will be sponsored by Mountain West Bank, Elk Mountain Farms, Hubbard Ag Science, and Gardner Grind.

SPOT, the Selkirks-Pend Oreille Transit Authority, is pleased to announce new Saturday service from Bonners Ferry to Sandpoint for the ski season! The no-cost service will start on Dec. 7 and continue through March.
Special Olympics bowling wraps up season
Local Special Olympics athletes completed their fall season at the Northern Regional Bowling Tournament at Huckleberry Lanes in Sandpoint on Nov. 15. Under the direction of Coach John Beck, nine athletes practiced once a week for 12 weeks in order to compete in the tournament. Beck was assisted by Social Worker Candy Beck (no relation).

BONNERS FERRY — The Lady Badgers used a press to jump out to a 19-9 first quarter lead. But then the Badgers, who were already missing players because of vacation, now had foul trouble in the second quarter.

This “Dance Poster” was printed at the Herald Print Shop on Oct. 9, 1967. The State Line House ordered 500 posters at a cost of $11.80. The poster was designed with blank lines to be written on. Wonder how many dances were held at the State Line House!
Boundary County Human Rights Task Force: Celebrating a diversity of faiths; fostering a culture of respect
The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, written by James Madison in 1789, enshrined into law both freedom of religion and freedom from religion. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This was a rejection of the British system, which maintained an official Church of England and limited the political rights of non-members. Thomas Jefferson hailed the First Amendment as “a wall of separation between Church & State.”

Glazier named new fire chief for Paradise Valley
My wife and I purchased land in Paradise Valley in 2007. We visited often and then decided in 2009 to begin building a home. We moved to Bonners Ferry in 2010 and I became a Paradise Valley Fire District (PVFD) volunteer firefighter in Aug. 2011. I assumed the position of acting Chief in Dec. 2018 and was appointed Chief in Aug. 2019.

Officials celebrate completion of road improvement project
A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the completion of the Tobe Way and Plato Drive Improvements Project in Boundary County at the intersection of Plato Drive and Tobe Way – located off of U.S. 95 in the center of the completed project area on Monday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m.
