| April 2, 2020 2:43 PM

BONNERS FERRY — According to a press release from the Boundary County School District, the soft closure of the Boundary County Schools will begin April 6 and continue to April 20 at the earliest.

This is put into effect to protect students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members. The soft closure means students and teachers will not be in school buildings and they will transition to remote learning.

According to the press release, students and their families will be contacted by teachers on how to access learning materials and each teacher is setting up a webpage for families to access the learning materials.

To access learning materials:

Visit www.bcsd101.com

Click on “our schools” in the middle of the page;

Click on your selected school “website;”

Click on “directory-websites” on the right-hand side;

Click on the individual teacher to access their website and learning materials.

They have opened internet access at each school site in parking lots.

“If you are unable to connect or your child is struggling in this format, please call the school. Building principals and/or administrative assistants will be in the schools starting April 6,” stated the press release. “We will return calls as soon as possible.”

Hours at each school are Mondays from 7:30 a.m.to 6 p.m. and Tuesdays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The school buildings will be locked and not open to the public.

“If you need to speak to someone in person, you will need to call the school and set an appointment,” stated the press release. “Our teachers, principals, directors, and all staff members are working diligently to be as helpful as possible in this very trying time.”

People are encouraged to still communicate and teachers are available by email and phone during regular school hours.

To minimize exposure to the virus, they are trying to limit the exchange of papers, but if students are in need of paper copies for any assignments, please call the office at each school and/or communicate with the teacher via email or phone.

“We will be in contact with you on how we will manage this process,” said the press release.

“Please understand we will not have a final answer to this question before Wednesday, April 8, unless you have already made arrangements with the school/teacher(s).”

Food service and transportation will begin delivering meals again on Monday, April 6. Please continue to watch the website for locations and times. They will be adding more sites to better serve the community. They will be working with BoCo to deliver additional meals on Thursdays.

Child care services will continue on Monday, April 6. Each site can have up to nine kids participating. The services are at Valley View Elementary, Naples Elementary, Mount Hall Elementary, and Boundary County Middle School. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They will re-evaluate child care Monday afternoon. Based on the need, they may consolidate and/or close child care services.

“Please remember COVID-19 is extremely contagious. The best ways to prevent illness is to not be exposed. Please continue to take steps to protect our children and others by staying home, washing your hands well, avoiding close contact with others, and not touching your eyes, mouth, and nose,” said the press release. “We must all do our part to protect our community.”

According to the press release, they are taking measures to reduce the spread of the virus and hope everyone else will do the same. Boundary County School District will continue to monitor the situation and communicate when information changes. The State Board of Education will meet on April 6, 2020 with more guidance for our district.
