Children invited to audition for ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’

| February 13, 2020 1:00 AM

Auditions for the Pearl Theater presentation of Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in the Becker Auditorium at Bonners Ferry High School.

Rehearsals will begin as auditions are underway.

“Dress for success” is good advice that the Emperor takes whole-heartedly in “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” wanting to impress new friends.

But where to stop?

When the clothes, and other people’s opinions, become more important than the people of the kingdom, trouble brews!

To help their beloved Emperor find the way back to his heart, his true friends create an elaborate “birthday suit” for the Emperor to wear for his birthday parade celebration.

The Emperor quickly and humbly learns that sometimes “less is more!”

Written and conceived by Jim Caron and Matt Loehrke with music and lyrics by Jim Caron, Michael McGil, Greg Boris and Amy Ellis, around 50-60 roles are available for local students.

All students, grades kindergarten through 12th grade, are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary.

Those auditioning should arrive at 4:30 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours.

Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Rehearsals will be from 4:30 to 8:45 p.m., with a 15-minute break at 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, Feb. 17-21.

Performances are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.
