BONNERS FERRY — Due to liability issues and insurance coverages related to coronavirus concerns, Boundary County officials did not allow for the annual Fourth of July parade. But this did not stop Bonners Ferry residents from hosting their own parade.

Organizers and participants of the event began to assemble at the parking lot of the Boundary County Fairgrounds. The procession started at precisely 6 p.m., traveled along Riverside Road through Main Street in downtown Bonners Ferry, and returned to the fairground parking lot.

According to Bonners Ferry City Attorney Andrakay Pluid, Boundary County and Bonners Ferry officials have known about the parade. No was permit issued, and the traffic control offered for permitted parades would not be provided.

“The public should be aware, that the city has no information that this event is insured in any capacity, nor has it been permitted or endorsed by the city of Bonners Ferry or Boundary County,” Pluid said. “Additionally, because no permit has been completed or issued, the typical traffic control provided by the city police will not be occurring.”

According to city police, it was ordered by law enforcement leadership to provide traffic control services.

Law enforcement was greeted and welcomed by parade-goers and thanked for their service.

The parade featured residents packed into vehicles waving flags and handing out candy to children in the area. The procession featured hot rods, trucks and an ambulance.

The parade lasted for half an hour and culminated at the return to Boundary County Fairgrounds parking lot. No arrests were reported, and the parade was peaceful and friendly.
