Mirror Lake Ladies Golf - Oct. 8, 2020

| October 8, 2020 1:00 AM

Wednesday, September 30 turned into a beautiful day for the last day of the Mirror Lake Ladies’ Golf season. The day was devoted to a playoff between all the Aces of the Month for the title of “Ace of Aces,” an award that will be announced at the Ladies’ closing dinner on Tuesday, October 6. The other winners of the day were Gerry Ann Howlett, for Low Gross with 45, Linda Bogdan, Wendy Hawks, and Carrie Figgins who tied for Low Net with 37, Etta Mae Schneurely, who had the chip-in for the morning, and Karen English who tied with Gerry Ann for Low Putts with 14. The morning matches were followed by a picnic lunch supplied by President Carrie Figgins and the ladies’ general meeting.

The Ladies will hold their end of year awards banquet on Tuesday evening, October 6 at the Dodge Peak Lodge restaurant. At that time, the Ladies’ Club Champion and Ladies’ Ace of Aces will be announced, along with other awards and honorable mentions. The ladies wish to thank President Carrie Figgins, Vice President Anne Bonar, Secretary Therese Helmer, Treasurer Ruth Ann Wilson, Ombudsperson, Linda Hiatt, and team makers Linda Bogden and Ruth Ann Wilson for their wonderful work this season and for their dedication to the golf club and the good health of the players. We also wish to thank Manager Ralph Lotspeich for the great job he does every day in keeping the golf course in terrific shape and organizing the activities that sustain it. Most all agree that the Mirror Lake Golf Club was a highlight and an oasis in an otherwise debilitating year.

The week of September 23, 2020, was “Ace of September” day and “Mystery Team” winners. After a very pleasant morning of play, Therese Helmer was the winning “Ace of the Month” for September, with a net 32. Therese also won the “Low Gross” award with 44, aided in part by her chip-in par on Hole #7. Beverly Comegys and Gail Thompson tied for the second Low Net score with 35. Three players had chip-ins: Therese and Wendy Hawks on the par four Hole #7, and Ruth Ann Wilson on the par three Hole #8. Ruth Ann also won the Low Putts award with 13. The Mystery Team, revealed after play was completed and cards were drawn, was Therese Helmer, Wendy Hawks and Etta Mae Schneurele, with their shared Low Net 37.

As September winds down, the Mirror Lake Golf ladies are planning their end of year Awards Dinner to take place October 6, followed by their “Impossible Open” final play on Wednesday, October 7. There is still one more Wednesday, September 30, for regular meeting and play coming up. Any interested lady golfer is welcome to join in! Nine hole play September 30 begins at 10 a.m.
