Duke Memorial Shoot

| April 27, 2021 5:31 PM

The “Duke Memorial Shoot” in honor of Terry (Duke) Guthrie, was held last Sunday, April 18, 2021.

The weather cooperated until around 2:30pm., then the wind came throwing targets straight up and sideways for a while, making shooting great fun for a while. Two and three hits out of five targets were winning prizes. We lost power about 3:30 so we had to call the shoot off as the traps couldn’t throw any targets without power.

We would very much like to thank our lady members and parents for all the help, and for providing great salads and beans, etc to go with the Moyie Shriners pulled pork sandwiches and brats.

Thank you all for your support for the Shriners, which goes to the Shriner hospital in Spokane.

Thank you also to all the BF Club members and all shooters for your help and support to keep our club and the Duke Shoot continuing each year.

Thanks to Digger Powell for keeping the 50-bird organized and squadded.

And thank you to our own Duke’s Claybusters High School Trap team for keeping the traps loaded and getting the clubhouse and grounds cleaned up.

The BF Gun Club was even honored to have Elaine Guthrie (Duke’s mom) and Patty and Darrell Kerby (his sister and brother-in-law) come out and join us for lunch.

The Duke’s Claybusters shot well in the 2021 league shoots. The team won 1st place in two different competitions and Runner Up in the third during three leagues they entered. Big-Sky Juniors – 1st, Spokesman-Review – 1st out of 24 Junior teams in the region, and 2nd place out of 26 junior clubs in the Camas Shoot.

“As president and a shotgun coach,” said Coach Lonny Jelinek, “I couldn’t be more proud to have one of the best youth trap teams in the Northwest, and a dedicated and helpful club membership. Thanks again to everyone. I am so blessed to know so many great people in this sport.”

In other news, Duke’s Claybusters are currently holding their fundraising ticket sales to help pay for shells, targets, and safety gear. Please support the high school trap team again this year by either purchasing raffle tickets for a chance to win one of three great prizes, or donating to the club.

Thanks again! Keep your head on the stock, eye on the rock, and shoot safe!

Coaches Lonny Jelinek and Ron Campbell
