Woodward needs to represent North Idaho, not Boise

| June 10, 2021 1:00 AM

Commenting on the recent story and subsequent editorial comments opposing the Bonner County Republican Central Committee’s resolution calling for Senator Jim Woodward’s party change and/or resignation.

Elected officials have avoided comment, but their comment is reflected in their own Idaho Freedom Foundation cumulative voting scores. Woodward’s 2021 Freedom Index score is 44 and his spending Index score is 5.1. The Democrats topped out at 43 and 11.5, respectively. Comparatively: Rep. Heather Scott scored 99 and 97.6, Rep. Sage Dixon scored 87 and 72.6, Sen. Carl Crabtree scored 71 and 0.0, Rep. Priscilla Giddings scored 100 and 95.2, and Rep. Charlie Shepard scored 83 and 58.4. Does Woodward vote Democrat or Republican?

Dismissing the IFF, an organization of credible accountability and legislative oversight, avoids the process of public evaluation, conducive of “establishment” participants. Do the Bonner and Boundary County JBS, the BCRWI and Boundary County Republican central committee organizations have official and public comment to the specific factual data above, silence might be deemed consent.

The BCRCC’s duty is to inform and educate Republican Party members. Toward that goal, the BCRCC passed a 2020 resolution titled “Protecting the Republican Brand.” The Mitt Romney, Liz Chaney and Woodward votes need to be publicly challenged, otherwise the conservative Republican brand becomes subverted by misrepresentation under false identification. Our own house must be cleansed to maintain credibility.

North Idaho and Boise are on separate ends of the political ideological spectrum. Woodward should be representing North Idaho interests, not Boise’s.

More to follow.
