100 Years Ago

County Fair directors have closed a deal for a 20 acre tract west of the city limits. They plan to make permanent improvements. They must sell more stock to pay for the necessary buildings.

Thursday evening a number of section men were returning to Bonners Ferry on a gasoline speeder from Leonia, where they had finished clearing the track of a slide and in the darkness ran into another slide. The speeder was ditched and the six men riding on it were hurled some distance, several sustaining severe cuts and bruises.

Bethlehem Mines will be reorganized. Stockholders will get new stock at two cents a share.

Valley View Elementary School’s band was one of five bands to win a “Superior” rating from officials at the District 1 Junior High Band and Chorus Festival last Saturday.

A group of 27 U.S. and Canadian citizens representing agri-business on both sides of the Canadian border, just north of Bonners Ferry, met last Saturday at Creston, B.C. to discuss possible problems when Libby Dam is completed next year.

Little Russell Roscoe was hospitalized Friday following a bout with a swing at school.

Once they arrived, an Avista crew quickly brought a natural gas leak under control in the 6600 block of Alderson Lane on Friday afternoon.

Following soccer coach John Lindberg and wife Shirley’s donation toward stadium lights for the soccer field near Boundary Co. Middle School, school board members voted unanimously to name the soccer field the “John and Shirley Lindberg Soccer Field.”

The Bonners Ferry baseball team won its’ only game in the rain-shortened Orofino tournament last weekend, beating 1A Potlatch 8-6 in six innings.
