George Conner Rifle Match

| May 11, 2021 1:06 PM

On May 1, four shooters from the Kootenai Valley Rifle Club headed to the Spokane Rifle Club for the 50th George Conner Outdoor Smallbore Tournament.

Junior shooters used iron sights while the senior shooters shot with scoped rifles, both using .22 caliber rifles. They took 20 shots prone at 100 yards, 50 yards and 50 meters, with an additional 20 shots each in the standing and kneeling position at 50 meters.

This was the first time the junior shooters from the KV team shot outdoors for competition. There was a bit of wind to add to the challenge but everyone fared well.

Nine junior shooters participated. Ben Tafoya, of Spokane, was top junior. Anna Pearsall, also from the Spokane team, was top junior expert. Salix Harris, from the KV club, placed first in the junior marksman class. Her teammate, Paige Sartell placed fourth.

Five senior shooters came to the line. Roger McRoberts, of the Davenport WA club was match winner. He did not drop a point on the 100 yard and 50 yard targets. Kathy Konek, of the KV club, was first in the expert class after the prone targets were completed but would end up in second place behind Don Jordan, also from KV, when all was done for the day.

If you are interested in learning more about, or returning to, the sport of competitive shooting, stop by the indoor range on Wednesday or Thursday evening when we begin again in October.
