Lady Badgers 1-2 at the Parma Holiday Classic

PARMA — The Badgers girls basketball team went 1-2 and went into overtime against Weiser at the Parma Holiday Classic Dec. 28-30.

Bonners Ferry 53, American Falls 71

After a long bus ride down to Parma, the Badgers came out ready to claim a quick 10-2 lead, but were outscored in the second and third quarters and fell to American Falls 71-53 in the opening round of the tournament on Dec. 28.

American Falls made some adjustments against the Badger’s zone and American Falls’ Paige Adair took over in the second quarter and seemed to grab every rebound, said head coach Travis Hinthorn. Adair led all scorers with 19 points.

Asha Abubakari led the Badgers with 16 points, including six for six from the free throw line, and eight rebounds. Mia Blackmore added 13 points making five of seven field goals and grabbed five rebounds to go along with her two assists and two steals.

Bonners Ferry 55, Weiser 65

In the second round of the tournament on Dec. 29, the Badgers lost to Weiser 65-55 in overtime. The Badgers trailed the entire game but with 4.4 seconds left, Abubakari drove the length of the floor and sank a runner as the buzzer sounded to tie the game at 51 and send it into overtime.

Senior Ivy Morris of Weiser scored eight of her game high 21 points to lead Weiser to a 65-55 win.

Markynn Pluid played well with 16 points and nine rebounds. Abubakari also scored 16 points to go along with her 11 rebounds. Braylyn Bayer reached double digits with 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

“Markynn had a good game and did a great job attacking the basket to get to the free throw line. I was happy how we answered their runs and kept the game close,” Hinthorn said.

Bonners Ferry 50, Malad 36

In their third game at the Parma Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30, the Badgers jumped out to a 30-15 halftime lead to beat the Malad Dragons 50-36.

Abubakri led the Badgers with a monster game scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also had two steals and three blocked shots.

“Asha had a great game. She really worked hard on the offensive boards and had a lot of put-backs,” Hinthorn said.

Markynn Pluid continued her great rebounding with 10 rebounds to go along with her eight points.

“This tournament was a lot of fun! It was good to see different teams and we have great kids that do a great job of representing our school and community,” Hinthorn said.
