From the Archives - July 21, 2022

| July 21, 2022 1:00 AM

The Feb. 17, 2022, "From the Archives" featured a black-and-white photo captioned: "Rowing on the Kootenai." This is what was said about the photo: "Here is another photo that has no information other than the caption. Two unknown people in a boat. Taken by an unknown photographer on an unknown date. Donated to the museum by an unknown donor. Do you see our dilemma? Many photos with no information, but isn't it a great photo?”

We still don't know who the people are, who took the photo, or what date the photo was taken. However, we did have Don and Jim Morice come in with a color photo taken on Feb. 18, 2006, of the same location in the old photo. This is the Kootenai River upstream from Dunning Creek. Two miles upriver from the mouth of the Moyie River, it was the sight of many boat launchings for the Kootenai River Days raft races. (The Great Northern Railway can be seen in the background, however Tunnel No. 9 around the bend cannot be seen in the photo.)

Thank you to the Morice boys for bringing in the photo.
