Softball finishes out season at districts

PRIEST RIVER — Badger softball finishes out their season in a Class 3A district 1 loser-out game against Priest River softball.

The Badgers were behind one run in the first inning and paced the Spartans in the second and third. The game was tied 6-6 following the top of the fourth inning but the Badgers couldn’t keep up the heat, losing 16-6.

Priest River will next face Kellogg today at 4 p.m. at Kellogg High School. The winner of the game will advance to the Class 3A Idaho state softball tournament.

Timberlake went on to take the district title and advance on to the state tournament.

SPIRIT LAKE — Badger softball fell to Timberlake in the first district game on May 11.

The Tigers came out strong scoring 11 runs in the first inning and 13 runs in the second inning. The Badgers scored three runs in the third inning.

Timberlake (20-4) hosts Kellogg (6-14) in the championship game today at 4 p.m. The Wildcats defeated Priest River 17-7 in Kellogg in the other opening round game on Wednesday.

Freshman Jesi Kitchin had four hits, five RBIs and four runs scored for Timberlake.

“She was just solid at the plate,” Lupinacci said. “She did a great job of getting on base.”

Bonners Ferry (1-19) visits Priest River (4-17) in a loser-out game today.
