BONNERS FERRY —- Mistakes made by the Wood River Wolverines and great plays by the Badger defense keeps Badger football undefeated and still in the running for the IHSAA 3A state championship.

On the second play of the first quarter Wood River fumbled the ball and the Badgers recovered. Against a formidable Wolverine defense, quarterback Blake Rice slipped the ball to Charles Henslee before being sacked. Charles Henslee gained enough for a first down.

In the last minute of the first quarter the Badgers made magic happen as Cleo Henslee dove for a touchdown for the Badgers.

In the second quarter the Badgers kept up the momentum, running in another touchdown by Cleo Henslee and a two point conversion by Rice. The Badgers lead 14-0 at half.

Wood River nearly had a breakout moment in the third quarter at first and 10 at the 29 yard line, but Rice kept the ball carrier from crossing into the end zone and Charles Henslee stripped the ball and ran to the 43 yard line.

The third quarter was scoreless.

To start the fourth quarter #5 Caleb Hothem of Wood River managed to slip past the Badger defense, scoring for the Wolverines.

With 2:20 left on the clock Badger Tully Reinhardt intercepted the ball. Before the minute was done Cleo Henslee scored another Badger touchdown. After the extra point the Badgers won 21-7.

Bonners Ferry head coach Travis Hinthorn said that it was a great game with one of the biggest crowds that he remembers.

"We found a way to win," he said.

Hinthorn said Wood River held the Badger offense well and that the Badger gave the Wolverines a lot of opportunities. Thankfully Badger defense held back any Wood River offense.

It was a good defensive game, he said.

The Badgers will play at Weiser on Nov. 4.
