BONNERS FERRY — The Boundary County Skatepark Association has received a donation from Bonners Ferry Eagles No. 3522 Auxiliary.

Prior to the Boundary County Fair, the Eagles Auxiliary surprised BCSA with an unsolicited raffle on their behalf which took place at the Eagles fair booth. The total donated to the BCSA project was $1,385.

BCSA officials said the donation has been added to the trust account and will be used as seed money for upcoming fundraisers.

BCSA is an all-volunteer skatepark advocacy group, formed as a special committee of the Boundary County Parks and Recreation Department Board. The group is working on the three- to five-year goal of replacing the existing and aging 2,000-square-foot skatepark with a new wheeled sports park that will be 8,000 to 10,000 square feet. Officials said the park will be designed by the community for the community for skaters, skateboarders, scooter riders, and possibly BMX bike riders, for decades to come.

BCSA officials compared their group to the small group of volunteers who built the playground at Memorial Park.

“With only four months in we’re off to a pretty good start,” said Jeffery Phillips of BCSA. “We’ve started making some other fundraising plans like grant research and solicitations for charitable contributions, which we will pursue during the winter, and we are gaining support every day.”

BCSA is hosting a Halloween party at the Memorial Park under the pavilion on Oct. 22. There will be fun and prizes, with raffle items to benefit the skatepark project.

They are also planning a Christmas movie at the high school auditorium.

“Rumor has it that Santa will be there for some photo ops with the kids,” Phillips said.

For more information, visit the BCSA website at www.boundarycountyskateparkalliance.org or follow them on social media at Boundary County Skatepark Alliance. Meetings are held every other Friday. The next meeting is Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at the skatepark.

Officials thanked everyone that joined BCSA at the fair parade that helped pick up trash.
