Gladyce L. Coble, 97

| September 21, 2023 1:00 AM

Gladyce Coble died Sept. 13, 2023, at the age of 97, in the loving care of the entire staff at Sunset Home Assisted Living.

She was born April 3, 1926, in Taylor, Neb., to Jacob and Amelia Strohl. She joined a family of three much older brothers, making her the delight of the family. She began school on the Rosebud Reservation and attended the Native American school, which she contributed to support until her death. While still in grade school, her family moved to Boundary County and farmed north of Bonners Ferry. She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School, and upon his return from World War II, she married Keith Coble. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary just weeks before Keith’s death in 2020.

Those 75 years were filled with adventures we all dream of … traveling the world, scuba diving in the South Pacific, camping and fishing, always with at least two of their daughters in tow. They particularly liked northern Canada and infected their children with the same bug.

Gladyce loved her career as a teacher, and many Boundary County "kids" can thank her for the fact that they can read.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harold, Vernon and Russell. She leaves behind three daughters, Claudia (Jack) Yeoumans, Raina (Dean) Weyen and Delia (Dan) Garrison; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family wants to thank the entire staff and the residents at Sunset Home Assisted Living for their friendship and amazing care.
