| September 29, 2024 1:00 AM

The community is invited to get to know local and state candidates in contested races at a community candidate forum Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Sponsored by the Bonners Ferry Herald, KRFY and the Selkirk Association of Realtors, the forum will be held at Sandpoint High School's auditorium, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The forum is a partnership between three organizations to provide voters with information on candidates before the general election Tuesday, Nov. 5, working together to build an educated electorate.

The forum will feature candidates in contested races in both Bonner County and Legislative District 1. Candidates in uncontested races have been invited to give a brief presentation on their positions.

In the District 1 county commission seat, running on the Republican ticket is Brian Domke and running on the Democratic ticket nomination is Steve Johnson.

In the District 3 county commission seat, running on the Republican ticket is Ron Korn who will face Glenn Lefebvre, who has chosen to run as an independent candidate.

In the race for Bonner County sheriff, incumbent Daryl Wheeler is unopposed in the general election as is incumbent Louis Marshall who is running unopposed for Bonner County prosecutor.

On the Republican ticket for the District 1 seat in the Idaho Senate, Jim Woodward will represent the party. He will face Daniel Rose, who is running as an independent.

In the race for the Idaho House 1A seat, Democrat Karen Matthee will face incumbent Mark Sauter, who won the right to represent the Republican party on the November ballot.

In the race for the Idaho House 1B seat, Republican Cornel Rasor will represent the party and will face Kathryn Larson, who won the right to represent the Democratic ticket.

Candidates will answer questions from local media and the public on hot local topics. Suggested questions for the forum can be submitted to the Daily Bee at news@bonnercountydailybee.com. Questions can also be submitted on the evening of the events.
