Bonners Ferry celebrates Easter, honors late Pope
This year's Easter egg hunt was a mad scramble.

BONNERS FERRY — Dozens of young families came together at the Boundary County Fairgrounds on a sunny Saturday morning for the annual Rotary Easter egg hunt.
Rotary President Sandy Johnstone, in her bunny ears headband, said this year’s event was the town’s best attended Easter egg hunt in recent memory.
Among those in attendance – the Easter Bunny. 
“What a great turnout,” the Rotary Club posted on Facebook after the hunt. “Thanks to the Robotics team members who came out to help and of course a big bunny thank you to the Easter Bunny for all the golden eggs.”
Other Rotary Club members who helped set up the hunt, also wearing bunny ears, said they hope to continue seeing strong community engagement at the Community Free Breakfast and Auction on May 3 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fairgrounds.
Following the Easter celebration, Boundary County has spent the last week mourning the loss of Pope Francis, who passed on Easter Monday.
Most flags in Bonners Ferry — such as those of the county, the Kootenai River Inn, Boundary County Middle School, Wells Fargo and Super 1 Foods — have flown at half-mast in honor of the late Pope.
