Bonita (Royer) Smith, 88

Bonita Faye (Royer) Smith, 88, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the long-term facility in which she was living.

She was born on March 25, 1937, in Bonners Ferry to the late Raffaleita (Plumlee) and Homer G. Royer.

She grew up in Bonners Ferry where she met and married Dale Harrington Sr. in October 1953 and she went on to have her three children, Dale, Vicki and Barbara. She would later get divorced and marry two more times, to Neal Hayter for a brief time and then meeting her final love, Gerald Smith, in 1983 and they remained together until he passed away in March 2009.

Bonita loved her family, gardening, playing poker, puzzles, camping and attending church. She was always taking care of others; first, working at the Boundary Community Hospital, then later in group homes with her ladies. 

She is survived by her children, Dale Jr., Vicki and Barbara (Mike); her siblings, brother Larry Royer and sisters Dolores Buck and Linda Callaway; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
