Francom appointed to Moyie council
MOYIE SPRINGS — North Idaho Classical Academy President Jacob Francom, unopposed, was appointed to the Moyie Springs City Council June 4 to fill a vacancy left last month by Terry Johnson.
Mayor Geoff Hollenbeck swore Francom in at the city council meeting, after which Francom took Johnson’s notes binder and seat next to council members Deborah Rauth and Patrick Stephens and immediately assumed his duty as interim councilman.
He wasted no time making a motion to nominate Rauth as council president to replace Johnson as the next action item on the agenda. The council voted in favor, so Rauth will fill in for when the mayor is absent and can sign checks on the city’s bank accounts.
The seat filled by Francom will be up for election this November, unless the candidate again runs unopposed.
Since Johnson’s term was scheduled to end in 2027, the individual elected as his replacement will only serve a two-year term instead of a typical four-year term.
