Tuesday’s Trouble competes at state championship
Eight area bowlers represented Liberty Lanes' Tuesday’s Trouble women’s bowling league on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6 at the Idaho State USBC Association 77th Annual Women's Championship Tournament held at both Orchard Lanes in Lewiston and at Lancer Lanes in Clarkston.
The state championship event, which recently concluded, takes place across three different weekends and in two separate cities to accommodate all bowlers. Bonners Ferry's DaVonna Cada, Evelyn Smith, Marie Sumpter, Donna Kent, Liz Cada, Kathy Scott, Alice VanGundy and Kathy Konek were all assigned to bowl on the first weekend of competition.
On the first day of competition, the team competed in the doubles and singles competitions at Orchards Lanes. Smith, who had two doubles and a turkey one game, and Konek highlighted the day by placing 61st of 112 teams in doubles with a score of 1,291.
In the singles competition, bowlers were split by averages and age. Alice VanGundy, in the 149 and under scoring division, tied for 40th out of 217 competitors with a score of 692. In the 70 and over age category, also known as the Super Senior division, VanGundy placed 28th out of 50 across all events with a score of 1,912.
On day two, the ladies found themselves just across the river at Lancer Lanes in Clarkston. Bowling under the name “Far North”, they entered two, four-person teams into the next competition. The team consisting of VanGundy, Sumpter, Smith and Konek tamed the lanes, tying for 23rd out of 53 teams with a total score of 2,574. Liz Cada, DaVonna Cada, Donna Kent and Kathy Scott made up the second team and showed that they too can bowl with the best, posting a score of 2,292.
To top off a fantastic weekend, Sumpter, across all events, was 50th out of 172 in the 149 and under scoring division and 33rd out of 102 in the Senior division (50-plus in age) with a score of 1,978.
The ladies stated that they are looking forward to the new lanes that Liberty Lanes will be installing this summer and towards more fun next season.
