New Dollar Tree opens in Bonners Ferry

After months of anticipation, Dollar Tree officially opened its doors to the Bonners Ferry community on Monday, May 19. 

The opening was delayed due to unspecified circumstances and technical difficulties, store officials said. 

“Thanks to an awesome team and a lot of hard work, we pulled it off,” said store manager Erik Queen, after the store finally opened its doors.  

Residents had been eagerly anticipating the store’s opening, welcoming the arrival of a more affordable option for everyday items. Customers said the area had lacked a similar store for years, recalling older shops that once offered low-cost goods but had long since closed. Many expressed excitement about having a budget-friendly option return to the community. 

Dollar Tree is a multi-priced store, so not everything inside is priced at $1.25. Queen said that around 85% of the store remains at $1.25, but they do have an aisle dedicated to multi-priced items which can be anywhere from $1.25 up to $10. Some sections will have multi-priced items in them, as well, and everything is clearly marked.  

This store will differ from the Ponderay location in that the Bonners Ferry location has freezers and coolers for food, Queen said.  

“We will have microwavable pizzas, burritos, hot pockets, wantons, dumplings, Jimmy Dean breakfast burritos, all that good stuff,” he said in regard to the selection of freezer items. He also noted that the store will have a perishable cooler which will have items like lunch meat, cheese and drinks.  

While Bonners Ferry has several other options for groceries, gifts and other needs, Queen believes the variety, pricing and quality will set them apart. 

“With the quality and variety of products, and the hours...seven days a week, it gives the community what they need,” he added.  

An official grand opening will be planned for a later date. 

The Dollar Tree is located at 6600 Main St. In Bonners Ferry.
