James Carter, 82
James Milton Carter, 82, was born September 26, 1942, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and got his wings on February 15, 2025, with his loving wife by his side as she had been for the past 62 years.
Jim grew up in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He was one of seven children born to Jacob Milton and Edith Melba (Wood) Carter. They raised three children, have seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Jim worked for many telephone companies as a telephone installer and repairman and did communications for the Southern Pacific railroad, later becoming a fiber optics engineer.
Jim loved adventure, and he and Gerry Lee traveled the United States & Canada and even took a cruise to Mexico. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, and even had his pilot's license and his own plane in Alaska.
In Eastern Oregon, while ranching and raising cattle, he founded the Medical Springs Rural Fire Protection District and was acting Fire Chief from 2002 - 2010 when they moved back to Alaska and purchased the C Lazy Moose RV Park.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gerry Lee (DeLano) Carter, children: Wendee & John Morrissey of Baker City, Oregon, J. Todd & Rosanna Carter of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Tina & Randall Minden of Stafford, West Virginia. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt's, uncle's, seven grandchildren (Bryon, Ashlee, Sydnee, Brent, Amber, Jordan and David) and seven great-grandchildren (Perry, Maylee, Jewel, Bentley, Carter, Jaxie and Ella) , two brothers; (Jerry Carter, Buddy Carter) and two sisters (Lavelle Turner, Vicky Carter).
A celebration of life will be held May 31, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Medical Springs Rural Fire Department with inurnment to follow at the Pioneer Cemetery in the park.
