Assault, violence at the Moyie Mud Bog; bi-annual problem

I know I can count on two things every Mother’s Day weekend each year in Boundary County. First, that my husband will spoil me with love and my children will give me beautiful homemade cards from art class and shower me with tulips and lilacs (so carefully looted out of my very own flower beds.) Second, that a person, or persons will be a victim of violence or sexual assault while attending the bi-annual Moyie Mud Bog. The truly disturbing thing is this is not an isolated incident with a singular victim.

Summer reading program a hit with Bonners Ferry kids

Where can you find 50+ kids on Thursdays in July? Why, at the Valley View Summer Reading program! This year’s program is starting strong with 47 kids attending our first session, and 60 kids on July 6. With teachers and support staff volunteering their time, we have opened our library. Kids of any age are welcome, and everyone has lunch, checks out books, plays chess, listens to a story read by our downtown librarians, and makes a craft.

Officer Martinez leaves Bonners Ferry for Sandpoint ISP

BONNERS FERRY — Just a simple box of doughnuts. It began as an idea to help make friends when Bonners Ferry Police Officer Mike Martinez started his position as the School Resource Officer. And just like that, Wednesdays became known as doughnut day.

Supaman brings life, hope to Bonners Ferry

Supaman’s recent performance, blending Native American traditions, music, dance and history with hip-hop and rap, was loudly appreciated by a big audience in Bonners Ferry. He shared the stage at the Becker Auditorium with DJ Element, a Native hip-hop celebrity in his own right who is featured in the last episode of season 2 in the PBS series “Native America,”

$80,000 to $100,000 cost for new sidewalks questioned

I read the article about the sidewalks at the new high school - “new” being the operative word. I took a drive to the school to check out the walkways. Other than a few cracks and one split where the students could possibly stub their toes.

'Today, I hope …'

Today I hope you’ll join with me in acknowledging guys like my sometimes not-so-lucky friend ‘John’. John wouldn’t hurt a housefly but one afternoon he tangled with the wrong guy and fell victim to robbery and minor bodily injury. John was homeless, lived on the street and usually carried his entire earthly possessions in a bedroll over his left shoulder. That is, until this other guy took possession by force. Whoosh, they were gone. Loss of his worldly goods and a black eye too, seemed hardly fair.
