The annual United Women in Faith’s fall rummage, book, bake sale is scheduled for Oc. 6 from 9-4 p.m. and Oct. 7 from 9a.m.- noon at the Fellowship Hall in the United Methodist Church, corner of Lincoln and Denver Streets.

BF mayor resigns due to conflict of interest, nepotism, hasn’t pulled candidacy

James “Dick” R. Staples resigned as Bonners Ferry mayor Friday, Sept. 22, due to the possibility a family member may receive a job at the city, creating a conflict of interest and violating Idaho nepotism law. However, Staples said he still plans to run for the position in the upcoming election, for which he is unopposed and will be sworn in as mayor in January 2024.

Evelyn Marie Huff Dinning passed away on September 10, 2023, at Boundary Community Hospital at the age of 93.

When Medicare’s prescription drug benefit, Part D, was created 20 years ago, the program was intended to protect Idaho seniors’ ability to access the pharmacy of their choice. Shortly before it was scheduled to start, the West Bonner school board meeting was paused for a phone call. Superintendent Branden Durst and trustees Margy Hall and Carlyn Barton then broke from a huddle near the front of the almost-full room and left the cafeteria.

West Bonner trustee skips meeting

As the clock ticked closer to 6 p.m., the murmuring started as West Bonner County School Board trustee Troy Reinbold's seat remained empty. "Is he here?" someone whispered at a table near the middle of the room? "Is he coming?" asked another. Without Reinhold's presence, the remaining board members of Hall and Carlyn Barton did not constitute a quorum and were forced to cancel the meeting.

Five badger cross country runners earned season best times, with Sydney Beckle taking second place and Matisyn Stiern taking fourth place for the girls at the Bonners Ferry Invite on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Every day should be Voter Registration Day

In my opinion, because one in four American citizens is not registered to vote, every day should be Voter Registration Day. I learned about this firsthand, leading the Boundary County team of volunteers in getting signatures to qualify the Open Primaries Initiative for the ballot in November 2024.
