Spotlighting Idaho's Spirit of Freedom

The enormous service of Idaho veterans and the devotion to serving the veterans community is one of the things I most enjoy highlighting each year. Every November since 2002, I have had the great opportunity to honor Idaho veterans and volunteers for their outstanding service to our country and its veterans. The 16 Idahoans who are recipients of the 2023 Spirit of Freedom: Idaho Veterans Service Award once again represent the many deserving Idahoans who lift up others with their service and thoughtful care.

Supaman brings life, hope to Bonners Ferry

Supaman’s recent performance, blending Native American traditions, music, dance and history with hip-hop and rap, was loudly appreciated by a big audience in Bonners Ferry. He shared the stage at the Becker Auditorium with DJ Element, a Native hip-hop celebrity in his own right who is featured in the last episode of season 2 in the PBS series “Native America,”

Orchestra celebrated 50th anniversary at holiday concert

The Bonners Ferry Community Orchestra, directed by Glenda Novinger, performed a free holiday concert celebrating their 50th anniversary together.

Schweitzer to remain closed until Saturday

The region's skiers and snowboarders are going to have to wait another day before hitting the slopes. Schweitzer officials announced Thursday that the resort would remain closed until Saturday due to poor weather conditions.

Reward offered in monk's disappearance

The family of a 64-year-old monk reported missing from a Washington state monastery is offering a reward for information leading to his recovery. Geshe Dadul Namgyal, a senior monk at Sravasti Abbey in Newport, was reported missing after he failed to show up for a buddhist prayer ceremony Nov. 7.

Badgers earn first season win, face tough teams

Bonners Ferry girls basketball (1-3) came back against the Deer Park Stags on Dec. 5, to within two points at halftime, but the third quarter was their downfall.

Orchestra to celebrate 50th anniversary, holiday concert

The Bonners Ferry Community Orchestra, directed by Glenda Novinger, will perform a free holiday concert on Sunday, December 10, at 3 p.m. in Becker Auditorium at the Bonners Ferry High School.

Born January 29, 1943, in Sunnyside, Wash., Thomas M. Smith, 80, passed away November 18, 2023, in Sandpoint, Idaho, following a valiant battle against melanoma cancer.

Bonnie Tritt Kelson

Former Boundary County resident Bonnie June Tritt Kelson, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep July 15, 2023, beside her faithful husband of 73 years, Phillip Charles Kelson in Tualatin, Oregon.
