Grace Villelli scored 8 first half points and the Badgers used a 17-7 second quarter scoring advantage to take a 25-19 lead into halftime at Timberlake, the state’s top-rated 3A team.

Unfortunately for the Badgers, Brooke Jessen, Timberlake’s 5-foot-10 sophomore post, took over the game in the second half on her way to a game-high 20 points, and the Tigers pulled away for a 45-33 Intermountain League win on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

“We played and shot well in the first half,” said BFHS Coach Travis Hinthorn. “In the second half they came out of their zone and went man. They got a little physical with us, and we just ran out of gas in the fourth.”

The Lady Badgers will again face Timberlake this Saturday at home. Girls JV will tip off at 3 p.m., followed by JV boys at approximately 4:30, varsity girls at 6, and varsity boys at 7:30.

On Saturday, the Lady Badgers beat visiting Kellogg 46-41 in a foul-filled IML contest. Holly Ansley led the Badgers with 14 points in a game that had 49 fouls and 64 free throws.

Baylee Blackmore, Mackenzie Jackson and Sierra Hill combined to score the last 7 points for the Badgers, all from the free throw line, in the last 2:30 of the game.

“That was a great team win,” said Hinthorn. “We were in foul trouble. When some starters fouled out, our subs stepped up, made their free throws, and battled to the end.”

Jaron Figueroa led the Wildcats with 22 points, including five 3 pointers.
