BOISE — Bonners Ferry High School swimmer Julia Cummings competed at the 4A state swim meet on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9.

Cummings placed third in the girls 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.53, and second in the girls 100-yard backstroke (59.99).

Cummings concluded her high school swimming career by earning medals in both of her events, despite most of her fellow competitors from larger-enrollment schools.

Although her scores and points earned go to Bonners Ferry High School, Cummings trains and travels with the Sandpoint High swim team.

After claiming third the past two years, the Sandpoint girls captured the state 4A swim title Saturday at the West Valley YMCA, finishing 25 points ahead of second-place Bishop Kelly.

Sandpoint’s Mikayla Schoening finished a half-second ahead of Cummings in the 50 freestyle to claim second, while Cummings topped Sandpoint’s Kaya Wright in the 100 backstroke.

The Bulldog boys also had a strong showing earning a fourth-place finish.
