Accident on Highway 95
BONNERS FERRY — A car accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, on Highway 95, just north of Brown Creek Road. A northbound car crossed over the center line and was struck by a tractor trailer. Although the car was badly damaged, the driver was checked by the ambulance and then refused service.

Zebra swallowtails make their appearance
Recently while driving to the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge I stopped by one of my favorite parks just northwest of the refuge office to see if the butterflies were getting nectar from the lilac bushes in the area. As I walked through the bright green grass in the beautiful park I noticed many butterflies flying around the beautiful purple fragrant lilac, almost dancing in the spring air.

BONNERS FERRY — Kenny David Corsi, who was charged in April 2018 with seven counts of rape and one count of sexual battery of a minor child, 16 or 17 years of age, entered a plea of guilty on May 23, before First District Judge Barbara Buchanan, to an amended complaint that charges him with two counts of sexual battery against a minor child, 16 or 17 years old.

MIDDLETON, Idaho — Abigail Gorton had a weekend to remember, peaking at the right time and winning titles in the 3,200 and 1,600 meter runs in Middleton, Idaho, at the 3A state track championships. The cold, rainy day did not slow down Gorton as she set a new school record with a winning time of 11:45.89 in the 3200. Melody Braden had the old record of 11:50.39 in 2008.

Agencies subdue two May 9 fires
BONNERS FERRY — Two fires kept firefighters busy on May 9. The first was a fire at the Boundary County Solid Waste Department that was reported shortly before 1 p.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was reported to be approximately 50 feet by 50 feet, with flames about 30 feet high and located in the northwestern portion of the landfill.

Setting sturgeon loose
BONNERS FERRY — Eight-year-old Ella Alexander gently scooped the young Kootenai white sturgeon from one of the waiting buckets, carried it carefully to water’s edge at the Waterways Boat Launch, and under the watchful eyes of Mark Elliston, Jr., Aquacultural Technician for the Kootenai Tribe — she released the juvenile fish into the Kootenai River to begin its new life. Ella went back, fish after fish, naming each one as she turned it loose.

Students from North Idaho College and Kootenai Technical Education Campus won several medals in the two SkillsUSA Idaho competitions recently. The Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning competition was held at Lewis-Clark State College and the Collision Repair competition was held at the College of Western Idaho in Nampa. Two students from Bonners Ferry took home medals.

This regular event allows 8 to 16-year-old boys and girls to learn basic shooting and safety techniques using a variety of .22 caliber rifles under the supervision of certified instructors.

With just about a month remaining, BCMS is wrapping things up in preparation for the end of the year! Seems just last week school was beginning and students were eager to test their new classes and meet new people. Tigers sweep Badgers, take control of IML
BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry Badgers baseball team was swept by the Timberlake Tigers in IML league play last Tuesday, 16-2 and 9-1. The losses essentially put Timberlake in the driver’s seat for their first IML league title in more than four years.
