The Bonners Ferry Badgers boys hosted Chewelah last Friday in non-league action. It was a close game that eventually sent the visitors packing for the long ride home with a loss of 59-56.

Volunteer firefighters from North Bench Fire Department delivered gifts to three families on Dec. 19, just in time for Christmas. The North Bench Ladies Auxiliary began collecting donations right after Thanksgiving and raised enough to help four families this provide Christmas for their children. Emily Eberle, BFHS class of 2005, Dartmouth College class of 2009 Economics and Asian Studies double-major took this picture this past summer near Datong, during a six-month Dartmouth-sponsored Foreign Study Program based in Beijing, China. Emily said she intensively studied Chinese Language and Culture between June and December of 2006. Her travels throughout China included Beijing, Shanghai, Datong, Xi'an, Xinjiang, Sichuan and Harbin.

Glen Arnold Fairchild, 84

Glen Arnold Fairchild passed away Dec. 3, 2006 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Private family services will be held. Glen's wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest at his father's grave, Glen Fairchild, Sr. who died in 1947. Glen was born on Aug. 14, 1922 in White Sulphur, Mont. to Glen and Ruth Fairchild. He served in the Army in WWII and received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation medal with one bronze service star, American Theater Service Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. After his discharge in December of 1945, he worked for Louisiana Pacific as a sawyer on their logging crews.

On Thursday evening, Dec. 21, 2006, Ruth Davy passed away at her home north of Bonners Ferry of cancer-related complications. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Chapel with private interment in the Grandview Cemetery. Born in Hall County, Texas to Minnie and Ira Ware on March 22, 1909, our beloved Grandma D will be sorely missed by numerous friends and family. Ruth was preceded in death by Wade, her husband of 60 years and sons Gary and William Davy. Sisters Jessie Ware, Elsie Wilson & Mary Thompson and brothers G. Buren, Leo, Robert and Harley Ware also preceded her in death.

Beware of changes to new comprehensive plan

Property owners in Boundary County should be wary of wide-ranging changes in the new comprehensive plan. Although touted as protecting the county's rural lifestyle, the latest version of the plan, for the first time, allows commercial and industrial mining, gravel pit and rock quarrying operations as conditional or special uses in five rural zone districts. No standards or limitations are imposed on these highly intensive activities to protect adjacent properties or the environment.

The Rehabilitative Services Department at Boundary Community Hospital would like to thank everyone who helped to make the Festival of the Trees such a success this year. Your generosity funded a Gait Trainer Treadmill for the Rehab Department which will allow us to provide the most advanced care for our clients. Wood, every human on this earth uses it. From primitive warming fires, spears, bows and arrows to wood-based high tech composites, ethanol and biodiesel, wood is used in more products than most people realize. Thank God wood is a renewable resource. Trees can get along fine without humans, but humans can't survive without trees.
