An ode to the lack of national pride
To the Editor:
Our "National Shamthem"
Oh say can you see by dawn's early light, our nation beseiged in decadent blight; Abramoff, Foley and Tom DeLay, Duke Cunningham and Robert Ney.
Plenty of crooks to make this rhyme, extend on to the end of time; William Jefferson and Harry Reid, is there no limit to incessant greed? Here's the roadside litter crew: Hastings, Traficant and Spiro Agnew. Amont those rated morally rank are McGreevey, Studds and Barney Frank. If that's not enough to leave you cryin', there's Rowland, Crane and Jim Ryan.
From Watergate to White Water, shame is shown on our founding fathers. Democrat? Republican? How about American? As congress mulls over sex with a page, we can't get action on the minimum wage. We search fro truth amid the mess, but are fed propaganda by the press. One soundbite away from instant fame, the other side is always to blame. Media savvy and unending vanity brought to you by Blitzer, Olbermann and Hannity.
Whatever seems decent and good is under barrage by Hollywood. The world's foremost superpower is losing strength by the hour, we twist our intelligence and terror attack into a war in the desert of Iraq. Increasing burdens for the working poor, while we siphon their youth to serve in the war.
Outsourcing and treaties have served to rob hardworking americans of dignity and job. School shootings, gang violence and social malorder, and under attack through a broken border. It seems our purpose and greatest goal, is to hunker down in damage control. We're building prisons faster than schools, a formulated future invented by fools. Big dreams and lofty national goal, up in smoke in a financial hole. Our governance is second rate as we choose not to participate. Some day we'll fall to a perilous rival as we turn our backs on the Holy Bible. A nation too proud to bow its head is doomed to join the spiritually dead.
God help our troops in foreign detention as we weaken the rules of the Geneva Convention; an attenuation of freedom's ring, brought to you by the left and right wing, lack of civility and the finger wave…
In the land of the free and the home of the brave.
