Evelyn Rose Cross Belden, 94

| November 3, 2006 8:00 PM

Evelyn went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006. She was born in Valleyford, Wash. on October 21, 1912 to Otto Duncan Cross and Mary Ann Edge at the Edge family home.

She was one of five children and grew up in Valleyford/Rockford area and spent some time in Ritzville, Wash. during her teen years.

In 1932, she graduated from Valleyford High School and she was class Valedictorian. Following graduation, she completed a course in secretarial and bookkeeping and earned her degree in 1933.

The summer of 1934, she met Carl Elson Belden and they were wed March 24, 1935 in Valleyford, Wash.

They moved to Bonners Ferry and settled in the Round Prairie area and raised five children: Carl Leslie, Barbara, Mollie, David and Karin.

In 1961 they moved to Grisdale, Wash. and Carl worked as a logger for Simpson's Logging until retirement in 1975.

They lived in the logging camp and Evelyn kept busy gardening, canning and taking care of grandchildren.

When they retired, they moved to Deming, Wash. and worked as volunteers at Mt. Baker Baptist Camp for 13 years.

Evelyn cooked for the summer camps and Carl did miscellaneous work around the camp. They enjoyed keeping busy, being involved and helping others.

In 1987, they decided to come home to Bonners Ferry to be close to family and settled in a small home in town.

Carl went home to be with the Lord in March 1996 and Evelyn is with him today. We, the family, are saddened by our loss, but she is at peace and we rejoice that they are together.

Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents, her four siblings and three grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children: Carl Leslie (Verna) of Bonners Ferry; Barbara Hedgecock of Bonners Ferry; Mollie Gafford of Oregon; David (Betty) of Bonners Ferry and Karin Waldman (Mel) of Bonners Ferry.

She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends throughout the area.

A memorial service was held October 28, 2006 at the First Baptist Church.

If you want to remember Evelyn in a special way, please donate to Hospice or to her church building fund at the First Baptist Church.
