KIA memorial dedication Nov. 11 at Veteran's Park

| November 3, 2006 8:00 PM

There will be a memorial service honoring all those who were killed in action during WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam beginning at 11 a.m., Nov. 11 at the Veterans' Park adjacent to the Boundary County Library.

At the time of the service, a new memorial stone will be unveiled. The stone, which lists the names of all Boundary County KIAs was created by North Idaho Granite Works. It is shaped like a 'V' for Victory to reflect the rich legacy of military service in Boundary County.

The new stone monument will add significantly to the park's overall serenity.

On the day of the dedication, the American Legion Post No. 55 will have tables set up for people to display memorabilia. Displays can be anything, ranging from pictures, uniform insignia, medals, even letters home. Short stories about local veterans are also welcome. Anything that will give a face to a name on the stone is particularly touching. There will be an honor guard at the table to ensure the sanctity of the items.

The dedication program will include a color honor guard made up of area law enforcement, and will be opened by the Albini Falls Pipes and Drums Band of North Idaho. Tim Wilson, a retired Marine Corps pilot, will emcee the event. Jan Klopfenstein will sing the national anthem, and Rep. George Eskridge, an American Legion member himself, will give the keynote address.

There will also be a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.
