Rain delays paving project

The Bonners Ferry Visitor Center and rest area project is moving forward despite the bad weather, Steve Boorman, city administrator, said Wednesday.

"Everything is going fine," he said, while admitting the weather has presented some issues.

Interstate Concrete and Paving cannot pave the parking lot until the weather is dry and the temperature is 35 degrees or higher, Boorman said. The lumber for the building is available, it is just a matter of deciding to start putting the building up, Boorman said.

Bonners Ferry Builders is the general contractor for the project. They should be able to work on the actual building construction in any weather, Boorman said.

The paving could cause the entire project to be delayed if it doesn't get done soon.

"The longer we wait, the greater the chance is we won't get done this year," Boorman said. "My dad said only fools and newcomers predict the weather."
