Scholarship Scam Alert

Parents and students beware of the predatory nature of some entrepreneurs. It has come to the attention of the counseling office at Bonners Ferry High School that various scams are coming in by mail, phone calls, and web sites. REMEMBER, if it costs to “save money,” it is not a valid business transaction.

The PSAT (practice SAT), standardized test will be given to sophomores and juniors on October 18 from 8 a.m. to 11a.m. Registration is through the counseling office with a FREE study guide given to the student with his/her $12.00 payment. There is a phone solicitation occurring with persons selling study guides — the students will be given this guide at no cost.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for college bound students for the 2007-2008 school year.

Please apply after January 1, 2007 either with paper application (available in the counseling office) or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

There is a web site, fafsa.com which will charge you $80.00 to process this free application. Do not fall for it!

Scholarships — There are many free sites for access to scholarship information.

All seniors at BFHS receive a monthly update on any scholarship that comes through the counseling office and this information is also available on the district web site at www.bcsd101.com.

A junior/senior parent night for college bound students is set for Monday, October 9, at 6 p.m. in the BFHS library. Handouts will be available with web sites for other FREE web searches for scholarships.
