Apparently, Caribou don't mind forest fires

| October 6, 2006 9:00 PM

To the Editor:

Last week as I read the Herald's article on the federal courts ruling to close the Selkirks to snowmobiling, the judge's ruling was one of supposed concern for the woodland caribou, I also noticed looking west that the tops of the several mountains were ablaze as smoke filled the sky.

The "U.S. Forest Service" is burning the mountains? Another environmental nut cake policy, maybe the judge should consider the intentional burning of the Selkirks could be a considerably larger negative impact on the apparently all-important caribou? What about the environmental policy and/or acts of the fish and game to transplant grizzlies and wolves into our area? Maybe they should get Mr. Caribou on the stand and see what bothers him more, a pack of wolves, hungry grizzlies, a forest fire or a few snowmobiles. How crazy can it get?

By the way, the new comprehensive plan for Boundary County is open for input, all 112 pages, tonight. It contains a rather large section written by environmentalists in an attempt to bring the same environmental policies onto the private property owners. Please help us stop this and let the commissioners know that you do not want these or any other environmental policies adopted on private property.
