For the second week in a row, the Bonners Ferry Post Office refused to deliver the Bonners Ferry Herald on Thursday despite the fact the papers were received at the post office on time.

Numerous people called the Herald to complain Thursday.

"It's understandable that when people don't get their paper, they need to tell someone about it," managing editor Robert James said.

The fault, however, lies with the post office this time, he said.

When called for an explanation, post office personnel told the Herald that the newspapers were not delivered because they were received late.

That assertion is not true, James said. The newspapers were received by 7 a.m. Thursday, before the postmaster even arrived. The post office came out with another excuse today, making up something about paperwork that has not been required for more than a year, James added.

"It's frustrating because just last week we cooperated with the post office when postmaster Brenda Duncan needed information out to the public regarding the county road address mess," James said. "I guess she doesn't feel any need to work with us on getting the papers out on time."

The Herald will continue its efforts to get the paper delivered on time every week. Publisher David Keyes met Thursday with post office officials in an attempt to solve the problems.
