Prop. 2 protects citizens from government takings
To the Editor:
Proposition 2 protects our private property from government regulatory takings.
Sometimes governments create regulations that reduce the value of your property? That's called regulatory takings. Should the government compensate you when the government lowers the value of your property? I think they should.
Suppose local officials want more open space, or want to change the way someone's land can be used. They make the changes to benefit the public at large. Should this "benefit" be paid for on the backs of a few property owners whose land is being de-valued for the sake of the public good? Or, should all of those who get the "benefit" be responsible for paying their fair share to enjoy the "benefit?"
Voting YES on Proposition 2 insures that your investment in private property is protected from government actions that devalue your property, and all the hard work you did in order to buy it.
Please vote YES on Proposition 2.
