Sali bad news for Idaho

| October 20, 2006 9:00 PM

To the Editor:

As I end my political career, I have been reflecting back on my work with over 1,000 legislators, government leaders and their dedicated state employees…work that involved issues important to all the people of Idaho. There were legislators that didn't always agree with me or me with them, but I enjoyed working with them nonetheless. The majority of those who serve either as legislators or state employees are there to work for all the people of Idaho.

And then a very few come along that are there to serve themselves or a special interest group. One individual that I could not and finally would not work with was state representative Bill Sali, now a candidate for Congress. I must confess when Rep. Sali was chairman of the House Health and Welfare committee, it was the worst committee I had ever served on in my 18 years in the legislature. I worked to get Rep. Sali removed from his chairmanship and was successful.

The damage done to the legislative process by this special interest representative was bad enough that the Speaker of the Idaho House of Representatives referred to Rep. Sali as an idiot.

Rep. Sali would not represent all the people of the First Congressional District any more than he represented all the people of District 21. Sali is, in my opinion, the worst special interest legislator I have ever served with.

I am a democrat and will, of course, be working for and voting for Larry Grant for Congress. I urge you to do the same.
