Fair nomination was a wonderful surprise
What a surprise. To be nominated for the 2007 Fairest of the Fair Queen, by Glenda Poston, then to be actually chosen as the queen during the opening of the fair, Wednesday night, was more than I ever dreamed of.
I want to thank Glenda for nominating me and the Friends of the Fair for sponsoring this program and for the beautiful crown pin they presented at the brunch served at the Chic N' Chop restaurant the morning we were nominated. For all the gifts I received, I want to give a big thank you.
I want to thank the Friends of the Fair for the beautiful rose when I arrived Wednesday night for the opening of the fair, the huge bouquet of roses I received when I was named queen, and the sparkling sash to wear with the crown that even sparkled more.
To top it off they also presented me with a huge basket filled with gifts from La Mar's, The Gift Gallery, The Creamery, Jill's Cafe, Backwoods Creation, Jennifer Watts, Tucked Away, Under The Sun and the Gift Craft. Then to have the fair royalty decide to have me lead the parade, instead of them, really put the icing on the cake. The slick black Mercedes convertible, driven by its owner, Bud Larson was really something.
As I stepped off the convertible, Bud presented me with a single pink rose. Thanks, Bud. What a day, next to my wedding, 67 years ago this December, it has to have been one of the greatest moments of my life. Thanks. You'll never know how happy you all made me.
