Former Bonners Ferry resident Ellen Bernice Allenberg, 73, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Avalon Care Center in Spokane, Wash.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home with burial at Grandview Cemetery.

Ellen was born April 12, 1934, in Asotin, Wash., to Roy and Camelia McNeil Johnson. She was raised on the family ranch in Cloverland, Wash., and had many fond memories of their life there.

The family later moved to Newport, Wash., where she met and married Charles Edward Glen in 1951.

During the late 1970s, Ellen worked at LP Mill for several years in Moyie Springs. She also worked for several years as a cook at Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry.

Charles died in 1976. In 1983, Ellen married Harold O. Allenberg. He died in 1991 and Ellen later moved to Spokane.

Throughout her life, Ellen enjoyed gardening and kept a wonderful garden and pond at her South Park home. She also enjoyed embroidering and was an avid reader.

Ellen will be remembered for her keen wit, sense of humor and for her love of animals.

Survivors include her children Steve Glen and his fiance, Kelly Lynx, of Kapolei, Hawaii; Dave Glen of Vallejo, Calif.; Janet Glen and her husband, Tom Wilson, and Steve Allenberg and wife, Zetta, all of Spokane; Gladys Glen Ackerman of Lewiston; Harold Allenberg Jr. of Moyie Springs; Ken Allenberg of Yreka, Calif.; and Don Allenberg and his wife, Sharon, and Helen Dennison, all of Bonners Ferry.

Also surviving is a brother Edward Johnson and his wife, Rosa Lea; sisters Pat Henderson and her husband, Dave, and Beverly Green; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
