Letter about Obama is
worst type of conservatism
I am writing this letter in response to the letter from Janney Chandler.
First, let me say that I am an 18-year-old student, a Republican, a Christian and a contributing writer to the Herald. I hold within my Christian values and practice them with the utmost respect and diligence.
I do not try to push my beliefs on anybody, however Ms. Chandler, who I also assume is a Christian, does not illustrate any of the Christian values that I have been taught. Her letter is an example of the worst type of conservatism — the hateful type.
The letter from Ms. Chandler is one of the most extreme examples of bigotry and hate that I have witnessed.
I would like to point out many discrepancies in the letter that reveal the ignorance that may contribute to such bigotry: The Muslim equivalent of the Bible is not called the Iran; it is the Quran — one of the many mistakes that Ms. Chandler made.
The biggest error of her letter is that Barack — not Barak — Obama is not Muslim. He was born in a Muslim family, but he is not Muslim. He is a self proclaimed Christian.
I wholeheartedly disagree with Ms. Chandler on her views, and I am honestly disappointed that the Herald would even print such a blatant display of prejudice.
What is this country coming to when we are condemning others for their religious beliefs?
I understand that Ms. Chandler may not agree with Muslim beliefs, however that does not give her the right to condemn an entire faith, suggesting that they are evil and will harm America.
I would like to let Ms. Chandler know that these words of hate and racism will not be tolerated in this country much longer; a new generation of Americans is coming of age and we are going to make a change for the better.
