Badgers beat Newport, Chewelah

In a game foreshadowing the battle to come for the Intermountain League Title, Priest River (5-4) defeated the Bonners Ferry (5-5) 68-58 for the Christmas Tournament title.

The Badgers gave the Spartans a run for their money as they attempted to overcome a 41-29 half-time deficit. Bonners Ferry's 29 second-half points to Priest River's 27, however, wasn't enough for a victory.

The Spartans were led by Justin Mills and Jake Weimer, who both had 16 points. The Spartans shot 78 percent from three-point range going 7 for 9 in the first half.

From the same tournament, Bonners Ferry defeated Newport 65-52 behind Hoisington's 17 points and Winebark's 15. Badger junior Casey Nelson added 9.

Hoisington also had 14 rebounds, while senior Casey Langford led with four assists.

In yet one other game, Winebark scored 29 points to help the Badgers defeat Chewelah 69-62 on Thursday.
