Support the North Bench Volunteer Fire Department

No matter if you live in the city or out in the beautiful country here in Boundary County, you live in a fire district. More importantly, with a few exceptions, those personnel who will respond to your 911 calls for help for a fire or other emergency will be all VOLUNTEERS.

I joined the North Bench Volunteer Fire Department almost two months ago, and I can say that these men and women are some of the best volunteers I have ever worked with.

I have never heard anyone complain when we get a call out at 3 a.m., when it interrupts a family dinner or an important event.

Our volunteers are professional and giving of their time both on calls and in training sessions that lately are taking up many nights and weekends to get us ready for the upcoming wildland fire season.

What I do see that surprises me is the lack of citizen involvement in our monthly Board meetings.

In these meetings, we discuss with the Board of Directors everything from training, community involvement and fiscal matters including the purchase of vital equipment we need to do our jobs safely and effectively.

I encourage those local citizens that live in the North Bench Fire District to come to our Annual Meeting, where all of you will be able to vote for those individuals who wish to be on the Board of Directors for YOUR department. It is my personal opinion that we need new and impartial local citizens on the Board to allow the department to make important changes for the benefit of the public we serve in 2007.

If you feel that you have the time to dedicate to this position and have knowledge of business and fiscal matters, please come in and run for a position on the Board. In addition, everyone is encourage to come to our monthly meetings to help us with issues that will affect our service to you, these meetings are open to the public as well. You can call the NBVFD at 208-267-8674 for monthly meeting times. Remember, one day you may be the one calling for our volunteer service!
